TN Scraps Parandur Airport Proposal Over Farmer Concerns

The Tamil Nadu government has decided to drop the proposed Parandur greenfield airport project following sustained opposition from local farmers and environmental groups. Chief Minister C Joseph Vijay, leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), announced the decision, emphasizing his support for residents who raised concerns over the displacement of farming communities, the protection of multi-crop agricultural lands, and potential environmental impacts on local water resources.

While the project had originally been planned as a long-term infrastructure initiative about 70 km from Chennai to address regional air traffic and industrial development demands, the administration has chosen to honor the concerns of the protesting residents.
