Track to Tomorrow: The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Update

The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train Project has recorded significant progress in civil construction, with 352 km of viaducts and 446 km of piers completed, according to the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited’s (NHSRCL) project update for May 2026.

The 508 km high-speed rail corridor, India’s first bullet train project, is being developed to connect Mumbai and Ahmedabad through 12 stations located across Maharashtra, Gujarat and Dadra and Nagar Haveli. Construction activities continue to advance steadily across multiple sections of the route, with nearly 90 per cent of the alignment being developed as an elevated corridor. The remaining portions comprise tunnels, bridges and station infrastructure designed to support high-speed rail operations.

As part of efforts to minimise environmental and community impacts, NHSRCL has installed noise barriers along 291 km of elevated sections. Significant progress has also been achieved in track infrastructure works, with 193 route km of reinforced concrete track bed completed. Additionally, track slab installation with CAM injection has been finished over 78 route km, reflecting continued advancement toward the next phases of system integration and railway infrastructure development.

Once operational, the Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor is expected to transform intercity travel in western India by substantially reducing travel time, improving regional connectivity and supporting economic growth across the corridor through enhanced mobility and infrastructure development.
