TruAlt & Honeywell: Powering the Future of SAF in India

TruAlt Bioenergy has signed a binding agreement with US-based Honeywell to license its ethanol-to-jet technology for a proposed sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) facility with a capacity of 80,000 tonnes per annum (TPA).

The agreement marks a significant milestone toward setting up one of India’s first greenfield ethanol-based SAF production plants. The project builds on a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signed by TruAlt Bioenergy with the Government of Andhra Pradesh in November 2025 to develop the facility with an estimated investment of ₹2,250 crore.

Honeywell’s Ethanol-to-Jet (ETJ) process converts ethanol derived from renewable sources into SAF and renewable diesel, offering a cost-effective pathway to reduce carbon emissions from aviation and road transport while leveraging existing ethanol infrastructure.

Commenting on the partnership, Ranjit Kulkarni, Vice President and General Manager, Honeywell Process Technology India, said, “Our proven ethanol-to-jet technology provides a cost-efficient pathway for SAF production and will help TruAlt Bioenergy advance its net-zero ambitions while creating value across the agricultural and energy ecosystems.”

Once operational, the facility is expected to significantly reduce CO₂ emissions from the aviation sector, boost demand for bioethanol, support farmer incomes, and enhance India’s energy security.
