Turning the Tide: Beur’s New ₹66 Crore Mission to Save the Ganga

The Beur Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) in Patna, Bihar, has been completed at a cost of ₹66.31 crore and is now operational. With a treatment capacity of 43 million litres per day (MLD), the facility is a key initiative under the national Clean Ganga Mission (Namami Gange).

The plant has been designed to intercept and treat wastewater from Beur and surrounding areas that was earlier discharged untreated into the Ganga River, contributing to water pollution. With the commissioning of the STP, sewage will now undergo scientific treatment before release, significantly reducing pollutant loads and improving the river’s water quality.

The project was implemented by the Bihar Urban Infrastructure Development Corporation (BUIDCo) and incorporates modern, energy-efficient treatment technologies. Environmental experts have welcomed the development, highlighting its positive impact on the Ganga’s ecosystem and public health by reducing the risk of water-borne diseases and supporting local biodiversity.
