UDAN’s Big Splash: Kochi-Agatti Seaplane Service Set for June 22

India’s long-awaited seaplane services under the UDAN scheme are expected to commence on June 22, with the inaugural route connecting Kochi and Agatti in Lakshadweep. The launch is likely to be inaugurated by the Union Civil Aviation Minister and marks a significant milestone in enhancing connectivity to island regions.

The project has received the necessary security clearances, enabling the start of commercial seaplane operations in Lakshadweep. Authorities have approved operations under a security framework similar to that used for helicopter services.

Once launched, the Kochi–Agatti seaplane service is expected to improve accessibility, reduce travel time, and support tourism growth while strengthening regional connectivity objectives under the government's UDAN initiative.
