Union Cabinet Greenlights Key Road Link from Vadhvan Port to NH-48

The Union Cabinet has approved a crucial 32-km road project connecting Vadhvan Port to National Highway 48 (NH-48), enhancing the transportation network in the region. The National Highways Authority of India’s Land Acquisition Committee (NHAI-LAC) has authorized the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH) to oversee the necessary decisions for this project.

Following the Ministry’s declaration of the road as a national highway, the land acquisition process will commence, as indicated by a gazette notification. This new road is vital for the efficient transport of quarry materials from local sites to Vadhvan Port, a key infrastructure development aimed at boosting regional trade.

The NHAI is set to invite tenders for constructing an initial two-lane, 20-km stretch of the road to facilitate immediate material transport. This section will form part of a broader plan for dedicated connectivity to Vadhvan Port, with further extensions anticipated to complete the route.

The approval for this road project follows the Union Cabinet’s green light for the Vadhvan Port project earlier in June 2024, highlighting the government’s commitment to improving maritime infrastructure.

This road link is expected to significantly enhance logistical efficiency, supporting the economic growth of the region by providing better access to one of India’s emerging ports.
