NxtCell India has partnered with Padget Electronics, a subsidiary of Dixon Technologies, to kick off local production of Alcatel-branded smartphones. The first batch is expected to launch within 8 to 10 weeks.
“We’ve collaborated with Padget Electronics to manufacture a range of Alcatel devices, starting with an annual output of 1.2 million smartphones,” said Atul Vivek, Chief Business Officer at NxtCell India. He added that the company plans to expand production to other devices in the future, supported by an initial investment of USD 30 million.
The Padget facility will employ 500 workers, including 200 dedicated solely to Alcatel’s production. A streamlined technology transfer process has been implemented to uphold high manufacturing standards and support India’s domestic production drive. The first smartphone range will target the ₹20,000–₹25,000 segment, with stylus-equipped models introduced as a key differentiator in the mid-range market.
Meanwhile, Dixon Technologies has also entered a joint venture with Taiwan’s Inventec Corporation to form Dixon IT Devices, focused on manufacturing PCs, servers, and components. Dixon will hold a 60% stake, with Inventec owning 40%, and both companies sharing board oversight.
These developments highlight India’s growing prominence in the global electronics manufacturing space, aligning with government efforts to boost local production across critical tech sectors.
