Vadodara's 66 km Ring Road Project Takes Off with ₹316 Crore Funding

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has sanctioned ₹316.78 crore for the construction of a Ring Road in Vadodara under the Swarnim Jayanti Mukhyamantri Shaheri Vikas Yojana. The project follows a proposal by the Vadodara Urban Development Authority (VUDA) to the Gujarat Urban Development Mission (GUDM), citing the city’s rapid urban growth and expanding industrial zones as key reasons for the critical infrastructure upgrade.

The Ring Road is planned to span 66 km in total length and 75 metres in width. The first phase, however, will focus on a 27.58 km stretch with a reduced width of 45 metres. This initial phase will be distributed across Vadodara’s eastern and western regions—10.70 km in the east and 16.84 km in the west.

This infrastructure initiative is expected to greatly ease traffic congestion, particularly along major routes connecting Vadodara with the Statue of Unity, Ekta Nagar, and National Highway 8 (NH-8), which links Mumbai and Ahmedabad. Once completed, the Ring Road will function as a major arterial route, enhancing urban mobility and reducing commute times for both local residents and intercity travelers.

The western segment of the project, covering 16.84 km, is also projected to stimulate economic activity and encourage urban development in nearby areas. Officials emphasized the Ring Road’s strategic importance in advancing both transportation infrastructure and regional growth objectives.
