Vaishnaw Reroutes Pune-Nashik Rail: Shirdi & Chakan Gain

The Pune–Nashik semi high-speed railway project has been rerouted to avoid the GMRT Observatory in Narayangaon following concerns that the original alignment could disrupt its scientific operations.

Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced the revised alignment in the Lok Sabha, stating that the new route will pass through Ahilyanagar and Shirdi before reaching Nashik, instead of the earlier planned path via Sinnar, Sangamner, Narayangaon, and Chakan.

According to the minister, the alteration was made after discussions with multiple stakeholders, including state authorities and local representatives. He noted that although the updated route is only marginally longer, it brings added benefits, such as improved access to the Chakan industrial hub and enhanced connectivity to major cultural destinations like Shirdi.
