Vedanta Aluminium Eyes Global Crown with 60 LTPA Expansion Move

Vedanta Aluminium Metal (VAML) has unveiled plans to double its aluminium production capacity from 30 lakh tonnes per annum (LTPA) to 60 LTPA, driven by rising demand from infrastructure, transportation, energy, aerospace, and manufacturing sectors.

The proposed expansion is expected to enhance the company’s global competitiveness by capitalising on its integrated value chain, captive raw material resources, and operational efficiencies. Vedanta Aluminium currently contributes around 50% of India’s aluminium production and serves markets across more than 60 countries.

With key operations including the Lanjigarh alumina refinery and aluminium smelters at Jharsuguda and BALCO in Korba, the company is well positioned to support future growth. Following its recent demerger and independent listing, VAML aims to operate as a focused aluminium business with greater strategic flexibility.

Supported by captive bauxite and coal assets and approximately 4.5 GW of power capacity, the company plans to strengthen its position among the world’s leading aluminium producers while supporting India's growing industrial and infrastructure requirements.
