Visakhapatnam: Google's New $10B Asia-Pacific Data Powerhouse

Google is planning a $10 billion investment to develop a 1-gigawatt (GW) data centre cluster across three sites in and around Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, marking a significant step in its Asia-Pacific expansion strategy.

The proposed campuses—located in Adivivaram, Tarluvada, and Rambilli—are expected to begin operations by July 2028, subject to state approvals and infrastructure clearances. The project includes the deployment of three high-capacity submarine cables, each with dedicated landing stations, as well as extensive metro fibre connectivity, to support Google’s expanding cloud and AI infrastructure.

In parallel, Raiden Infotech India, a Google subsidiary or affiliate, has proposed a separate ₹87,250 crore AI-powered data centre in the same region. Together, both initiatives will require approximately 480 acres of land and 2,091 MW of power.

Key discussions between Google executives and Andhra Pradesh IT Minister Nara Lokesh are scheduled for October 14, with the State Investment Promotion Board (SIPB) expected to review the proposals shortly. The projects are positioned to significantly boost digital infrastructure, job creation, and AI capabilities in the region.
