Union Minister of Ports, Shipping & Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for infrastructure projects worth over ₹1,500 crore at V.O. Chidambaranar Port in Thoothukudi.
The comprehensive development package encompasses upgraded rail and road connectivity, strengthened power infrastructure, and the integration of renewable energy solutions—including solar and wind power, battery energy storage systems, and green hydrogen production. The projects also feature advanced safety mechanisms and digital platforms aimed at streamlining port operations.
According to the VOC Port Authority, these initiatives are set to significantly enhance cargo evacuation efficiency, reduce vessel turnaround times, strengthen multimodal logistics integration, and elevate operational safety standards—representing a major stride in the modernization and future-readiness of the port’s infrastructure.
