DCM Shriram Powers Up Caustic Soda Capacity

DCM Shriram has successfully commissioned a new 300-tonne per day (TPD) caustic soda flakes plant at its Jhagadia chemicals complex in Bharuch, Gujarat.

This expansion boosts the unit’s total caustic soda flakes production capacity to 900 TPD, solidifying its position as one of India’s largest single-location producers. The newly launched plant is a replica of a unit commissioned in October of the previous year. Both plants are equipped with flexi-fuel capabilities, offering multiple fuel options that enhance sustainability and operational efficiency.

Caustic soda, also known as sodium hydroxide, is an essential industrial chemical used in a variety of sectors, including textiles, pulp and paper, alumina production, soaps and detergents, petroleum refining, and water treatment. It is produced in two forms: liquid (lye) and solid (flakes). The flakes form is particularly preferred for export due to its ease of long-distance transportation. With a total installed capacity of one MTPA, DCM Shriram is now India’s second-largest caustic soda producer.
