Balu Forge: Fully Automated Shell Line Goes Live

Balu Forge Industries, a precision engineering company, has commenced operations of its empty shell production line at its greenfield manufacturing campus in Belgaum, Karnataka.

The facility is one of India’s first fully indigenously built production lines for large-calibre ammunition projectiles, with an annual capacity of 3,60,000 shells. Nearly 100 percent automated and powered by FANUC Robotics, the line is among the most advanced in India and globally. Designed entirely in-house with contributions from over 18 machinery manufacturers, the system operates unmanned with a rapid cycle time of 55 seconds, underscoring its cutting-edge capabilities.

Balu Forge plans to further expand this production line to meet both domestic and international demand. Commenting on the launch, Executive Director Trimaan Chandock said, “This is only the first phase of our long-term vision to strengthen India’s defence manufacturing. We will continue to scale our high-precision production capabilities going forward.”
