Bokaro’s ₹15K Crore Expansion Gets a Massive Logistics Upgrade

SAIL is modernizing its logistics by constructing its first-ever 258-km slurry pipeline, which will deliver 8.3 million tonnes (MT) of iron ore annually from its Gua and Bolani mines directly to the Bokaro Steel Plant. Expandable to 16 MT, this pipeline reduces reliance on rail transport and ensures a continuous, cost-effective raw material supply. The project anchors Bokaro’s ₹15,000 crore brownfield expansion, aiming to boost crude steel capacity from 4.65 MTPA to 7.25 MTPA under SAIL’s Vision 2030. Expected to be completed in three and a half years with a 30-year operational life, the initiative incorporates sustainable water recycling and Industry 4.0 automation, driving long-term competitiveness and regional economic growth.
