Jindal Steel & Power (JSPL) has successfully commissioned a new 250-tonne Basic Oxygen Furnace (BoF) at its integrated steel plant in Angul, Odisha, adding 3 million tonnes per annum (MTPA) to its crude steel production capacity. With this addition, the plant’s total crude steel capacity has increased from 6 MTPA to 9 MTPA.
The new BoF—used to convert molten iron into steel using high-purity oxygen—is a key part of JSPL’s ₹20,000 crore expansion plan aimed at scaling up the Angul facility to 12 MTPA. Upon completion, the site will rank among India’s largest single-location steel manufacturing complexes.
JSPL Chairman Naveen Jindal announced that the first heat from the newly installed converter has been successfully tapped, marking a significant milestone in the company’s growth journey. He emphasized that the expansion will support JSPL’s strategy of enhancing downstream product capabilities and meeting rising domestic demand.
This commissioning reinforces JSPL’s commitment to capacity building, innovation, and strengthening its leadership position in the Indian steel industry.
