Steel PLI 3.0: Fueling India's Defence, Auto, and Space Ambitions

The Government of India has launched the third phase of its Production-Linked Incentive (PLI) scheme for specialty steel, aimed at attracting investment in high-value, advanced steel products and reducing import dependence in critical sectors such as defence, automotive, and space.

Under this phase, incentives will be available from FY 2026–27, focusing on products including super alloys, stainless steel, CRGO, and coated steels. With a revised base year of FY 2024–25 for pricing, the scheme is expected to stimulate domestic manufacturing, enhance value addition, and create new employment opportunities.

So far, the PLI scheme has attracted ₹43,874 crore in investments and generated over 30,000 jobs. The third round will encompass 22 product sub-categories, offering incentives ranging from 4% to 15% on incremental sales, thereby supporting both strategic and commercial-grade steel manufacturers.
