The Heart of Electronics: Murata's Chennai Factory Opens

Murata Manufacturing, a prominent Japanese electronics company, has established a factory at OneHub Chennai Industrial Park to manufacture multilayer ceramic capacitors (MLCCs). This move follows significant investments from Corning and Jabil, with State Industries Minister TRB Rajaa emphasizing its importance in achieving the state's goal of boosting electronics exports by tenfold to $100 billion. Murata's components are integral to devices from Apple, Samsung, Nvidia, and Sony, and even play a role in NASA’s Mars helicopter project.

Murata’s President, Norio Nakajima, previously mentioned the company’s ongoing evaluation of investment opportunities in India, where 60% of its MLCC production is still based in Japan. Tamil Nadu has become India’s leading electronics exporter in FY24, contributing $9.56 billion out of the nation’s total $29.12 billion in exports, with over $6 billion generated between April and September alone.

Murata plans to reach full-scale operations by FY26, positioning itself for further growth within India's expanding electronics sector.
