India is set to emerge as a global leader in the luggage industry, driven by a growing preference for branded luggage solutions, according to Jai Krishnan, CEO of Samsonite South Asia.
To meet rising demand, Samsonite has tripled its factory capacity in Nashik to seven lakh pieces per month, following an investment of ₹250 crore over six years. The Nashik facility has now become Samsonite’s largest luggage factory worldwide, surpassing its operations in Belgium and Hungary. The company plans further expansion over the next 12 to 18 months.
CEO Krishnan noted that India’s position as the world’s third-largest luggage market is fueled by weddings, business travel, and increased mobility among younger consumers, particularly in semi-urban and smaller towns. “India is poised to become a global leader in the luggage industry in the coming years,” he said. Samsonite is also focusing on expanding its retail footprint, targeting 1,000 stores across the country in the near future.
