A Masterpiece Reborn: Venkatappa Art Gallery's Grand Transformation

The newly renovated Venkatappa Art Gallery in Bengaluru was officially inaugurated by H K Patil, Minister for Law & Parliamentary Affairs and Tourism, Government of Karnataka, along with dignitaries including MLA Shri Rizwan Arshad and Chief Secretary Dr. Shalini Rajneesh, IAS.

Led by the Brigade Foundation under the guidance of M R Jaishankar, Executive Chairman of Brigade Enterprises, the renovation marks a significant step in preserving Karnataka’s cultural and artistic legacy. Launched in March 2024, the project included critical structural reinforcements and the modernization of exhibition spaces and public amenities.

The gallery now features dedicated sections honoring iconic artists K Venkatappa and KK Hebbar, five rotating mini galleries, and enhanced visitor facilities. A new bookstore showcases curated art and heritage titles, with a focus on regional creators. The addition of a state-of-the-art restoration room offers both behind-the-scenes access to conservation efforts and educational engagement for visitors.

Other enhancements include a contemporary cafeteria, a sculpture park spotlighting emerging talent, and improved accessibility features such as ramps, elevators, and navigational aids—ensuring a welcoming experience for all.
