Amaravati's Infrastructure Drive Gets a $200M Shot in the Arm

The World Bank is expected to release an additional USD 200 million for the Amaravati Capital City Project by December 2025, following satisfactory progress in the project’s first phase.

The disbursement follows the initial tranche of USD 207 million, of which less than 50% has been utilised for ongoing development works. Both the World Bank and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) have each committed USD 800 million for Phase I of the project, bringing the total external funding to USD 1.6 billion. The next tranche will be released once 75% of the initial funds are expended, subject to compliance and performance reviews.

The funding forms part of a larger ₹15,000 crore development package for Amaravati, aimed at creating a modern, sustainable capital city for Andhra Pradesh. Regular inspections by the World Bank and ADB have indicated satisfactory progress, with further disbursements expected to align with project milestones and implementation efficiency.
