ARM Launches 2nm Chip Design Facility in Bengaluru

British semiconductor major ARM has inaugurated a new facility in Bengaluru, which will focus on designing next-generation 2-nanometer chips, Union Minister for Electronics and IT Ashwini Vaishnaw announced on 16 September 2025.

Speaking at the launch, the Minister said, “ARM will be designing two-nanometer chips here in this unit in Bengaluru,” underscoring the significance of the development for India’s semiconductor design ecosystem. He also highlighted the government’s push to build a deep talent pool through the Semiconductor Mission, which currently supports 278 universities and institutions with access to advanced EDA (Electronic Design Automation) tools.

Key Highlights:

ARM’s new Bengaluru unit will contribute to the development of cutting-edge 2nm chip designs, placing India at the forefront of global semiconductor R&D.

The announcement reinforces India’s emergence as a global semiconductor design hub, driven by an expanding talent base and favorable policies.

India will also host the AI Impact Summit in February 2026, following the previous edition in Paris, which was co-chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

Minister Vaishnaw credited India’s growing success in the semiconductor space to policy consistency and long-term vision since 2014, stating:
“Our Prime Minister has given us a totally new energy, a new way of thinking for working towards becoming ‘Viksit Bharat’ by 2047.”
