Defence Minister Rajnath Singh and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Dr. Mohan Yadav laid the foundation stone on August 27, 2026, for a major T-Series Tanks Overhaul Project at Jabalpur's Vehicle Factory, an Armoured Vehicles Nigam (AVNL) unit. Valued at Rs 472 crore, the facility will overhaul 80 T-72 and T-90 tanks annually to enhance the Indian Army's operational readiness. This plant bridges a crucial maintenance gap: the Army requires 230 overhauls yearly, while the existing Heavy Vehicles Factory in Avadi handles 150. Furthermore, the project will boost domestic defense manufacturing by generating extensive component-supply contracts for local MSMEs.
