Union Home Minister Amit Shah will lay the foundation stone for the Sita Temple at Punaura Dham in Sitamarhi, Bihar, on August 8, 2025. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar will attend the event as the Chief Guest, underscoring the cultural and spiritual importance of the project for the state.
Earlier this month, the Bihar Cabinet approved a ₹883 crore budget for the construction and development of the temple complex. The project aims to transform Punaura Dham—believed to be the birthplace of Goddess Sita—into a major religious and cultural destination, modeled on the lines of Ayodhya’s Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Tirth Kshetra.
Of the sanctioned amount, ₹137 crore has been allocated for renovating the existing temple, while ₹728 crore will be used to build surrounding infrastructure. Planned developments include a parikrama path (circumambulation route), dedicated parking areas, and upgraded access roads to enhance visitor convenience. The budget also includes long-term provisions for the temple’s maintenance over the next decade, ensuring its preservation and upkeep.
