Sunil Bose, MP for Chamarajanagar, has announced that a detailed project report (DPR) worth Rs 490 crore has been prepared to address the long-standing drinking water crisis in Hanur taluk.
The proposed project plans to lift water from the Cauvery River near Saragur village in Kollegal taluk and pump it to the Uduthorehalla reservoir in Hanur. From there, the water will be supplied to various reservoirs, tanks, lakes, and check dams in Kurattihosuru, Santekane, and surrounding areas.
The proposal has been submitted for consideration in the 2026–27 State Budget, and efforts are underway to secure approval. Once implemented, the scheme is expected to ensure long-term drinking water security for villages under nine gram panchayats, including Kurattihosuru, Kaudalli, Martalli, and Dinnalli, which have been grappling with severe water shortages due to declining groundwater levels.
Describing the initiative as the fulfilment of a decades-old demand of the people of Hanur, the MP said he is committed to expediting approval and commencing work at the earliest.
