Container Corporation of India (CONCOR) has signed a memorandum of understanding with Bharat Mumbai Container Terminals, operated by PSA Mumbai, to collaborate on rail-based transportation of domestic, cabotage and customs-cleared export-import (EXIM) cargo.
The agreement is aimed at enhancing connectivity between PSA Mumbai’s terminal at Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA) and CONCOR’s inland container depots and domestic terminals across India. According to CONCOR, the partnership will focus on operating container train services and improving cargo evacuation through rail logistics in order to reduce road congestion and improve turnaround times.
Under the collaboration, both companies will facilitate the movement of domestic and customs-cleared EXIM containers between PSA Mumbai and CONCOR terminals using rail-based logistics solutions. The arrangement will also support the optimisation of yard space and rail-handling infrastructure at PSA Mumbai for cargo aggregation, staging and evacuation operations.
CONCOR stated that the companies intend to operate scheduled container train services between PSA Mumbai and its nationwide terminal network, subject to operational feasibility and regulatory approvals. The partners will also explore opportunities for a broader strategic alliance covering logistics and terminal-related operations.
The state-run logistics company added that the partnership is expected to strengthen multimodal logistics connectivity and improve cargo movement efficiency between ports and hinterland locations across India.
