The ‘Coastal States Fisheries Meet: 2025’ was held on April 28, 2025, in Mumbai, under the chairmanship of the Union Minister for Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying and Panchayati Raj, Shri Rajiv Ranjan Singh. The event marked a significant step towards strengthening India’s fisheries sector, with the Minister inaugurating and laying the foundation for major fisheries infrastructure projects across seven coastal states and Union Territories. These projects, with a combined outlay of ₹255 crore, are being implemented under the Pradhan Mantri Matsya Sampada Yojana (PMMSY).
The Meet served as a strategic platform to align with the objectives of PMMSY and advance the development of the Blue Economy. Key initiatives launched during the event included the fifth Marine Fisheries Census Operations, revised PMMSY Guidelines on the use of Turtle Excluder Devices (TEDs), and a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) for the Vessel Communication and Support System.
Highlighting the government’s vision, the Minister emphasized, “The Blue Economy is a key focus of the government, and fisheries is one of its most important components with immense potential to drive rural growth and employment in coastal regions.”
