GMLR Update: BMC Gears Up for October Launch of Second TBM

Progress on Mumbai’s Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project is moving forward under Phase 3(B), with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) anticipating excavation for the second underground tunnel to begin by the end of October 2026.

The project's first Tunnel Boring Machine (TBM), Tulsi, was commissioned on August 17, 2026, and has successfully completed 183 meters of excavation. Meanwhile, the second TBM, Vihar, has cleared its Site Acceptance Test, paving the way for its upcoming commissioning and excavation phase.

Spanning 5.30 km, the twin tunnels run beneath the Sanjay Gandhi National Park, directly connecting Dadasaheb Phalke Chitranagari (Goregaon East) with Amar Nagar (Mulund West).
