In a major boost to national maritime security and indigenous shipbuilding, the Ministry of Defence has awarded contracts valued at ₹53,866 crore to two state-owned shipyards—Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE) and Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL)—for eight Next-Generation Corvettes (NGCs).
Under the competitive bidding agreement, GRSE will manufacture five vessels, while GSL will build the remaining three. Fully designed by the Indian Navy, these warships underscore India’s growing self-reliance in defense manufacturing and strengthen the capability of Public Sector Undertakings to deliver modern naval assets.
