Gujarat University (GU) has unveiled plans to launch a new medical college and a 300-bed hospital as part of a major infrastructure and academic expansion. The initiative was approved during a joint session of the University’s Board of Management and Executive Council.
The proposed facility—potentially located at the GMDC ground or another site in western Ahmedabad—will feature an outpatient department and a helipad to support future air ambulance services. Modeled on institutions like NHL Medical College, the project aims to enhance access to quality healthcare and provide state-of-the-art medical education.
GU Vice-Chancellor Nirja Gupta confirmed that land surveys will be conducted on university-owned plots, with final decisions guided by expert consultations. An estimated 25–35 percent of the GMDC ground may be allocated for the development, and budgetary provisions have already been set aside.
In a parallel move, GU is also planning to establish a five-star hotel and a hotel management institute near the Blind People's Association. These proposals, also presented during the meeting, are expected to receive approval shortly.
