IKEA Doubles Down on India with New Global Product Hub

Inter IKEA Group has announced the establishment of IKEA Product Development Centre India, a new entity created to strengthen the company’s product development capabilities and deepen its engagement with India’s manufacturing and sourcing ecosystem.

The newly formed centre will support the design and development of affordable, functional and well-designed home furnishing products for both Indian and international markets. Operating on behalf of IKEA of Sweden, which is responsible for the development of the global IKEA product range, the centre will play a key role in expanding locally driven innovation and product development activities.

India has been a significant sourcing destination for IKEA for more than four decades, and the establishment of the new entity reflects the company’s strategy to increase local sourcing, foster product innovation and develop home furnishing solutions that cater to the needs of customers in India and across global markets.

The centre will work closely with the company’s supplier network in India, leveraging the country’s diverse manufacturing capabilities, skilled workforce and extensive production ecosystem. Its activities will span a broad range of production segments, from advanced automated manufacturing facilities to traditional artisan-based craftsmanship, enabling the development of products that combine affordability, functionality and sustainable design.

The initiative is expected to enhance collaboration with local suppliers, strengthen product development capabilities within the country and support the creation of products that utilise India’s rich craftsmanship heritage, raw material resources and manufacturing expertise.

The establishment of IKEA Product Development Centre India underscores Inter IKEA Group’s long-term commitment to India as a strategic sourcing, innovation and product development hub, while contributing to the resilience and diversification of its global supply chain network.
