India's Private Capex Surge: FY26 Investment Hits ₹4.4 Lakh Crore

Despite a volatile global backdrop, India's corporate sector is betting big on the future. Recent data from the Reserve Bank of India’s September Bulletin reveals that private investment momentum accelerated sharply in FY26. Banks and financial institutions greenlit financing for 1,032 projects worth ₹4.4 lakh crore—a notable leap from ₹3.7 lakh crore the previous year.

What makes this cycle unique isn't just the capital volume, but its quality. Nearly 90% of the investments are greenfield projects aimed at long-term capacity building rather than mere upkeep. Infrastructure remains the undisputed anchor—commanding over half of all sanctioned costs—while states like Maharashtra, Gujarat, Rajasthan, and Karnataka spearhead the geographic distribution. As private capex eyes an even larger footprint of ₹3.2 lakh crore in FY27, the real test ahead lies in how quickly these blueprints translate into physical ground reality.
