Made in India: HP Powers Up Local PC Production

HP India is set to begin local manufacturing of laptops, desktops, and all-in-one PCs in May, in partnership with Dixon Technologies. This move is part of HP’s plan to nearly double its annual manufacturing output compared to last year.

The strategic decision to ramp up local production is aimed at strengthening HP’s presence in India’s expanding hardware market. By localizing its operations, HP seeks to improve supply chain efficiency, reduce costs, and accelerate time-to-market—key factors in an industry where agility and customization are essential to meet the evolving demands of both businesses and consumers.

In addition, HP has launched ‘HP Connects,’ a network of customer engagement centers located in MSME hubs. These centers not only offer easy access to products but also provide IT infrastructure solutions and consulting services, essentially serving as outsourced CIOs for businesses that lack internal tech expertise.

HP is among the 27 companies selected under the Rs 17,000-crore PLI scheme for IT hardware, introduced in 2023 to encourage local electronics manufacturing. The company is seeing strong growth across both commercial and consumer segments. While large enterprises and IT/ITeS firms drive commercial demand, MSMEs, especially those in non-metro areas, are increasingly contributing to the company’s sales growth.
