Meghalaya Cabinet Greenlights Major Development Projects.

The Meghalaya Cabinet has approved the acquisition of land in Umpardong, Umden, Ri Bhoi District, to develop tourism infrastructure and upgrade facilities at the popular Silk Village. This initiative aims to better accommodate the increasing number of visitors to the region.

In a related move, the Cabinet has sanctioned ₹50 crore for the construction of a road from Nongpoh to Umden, addressing long-standing local demands for improved tourist amenities, including lodging facilities. The Cabinet has also cleared a land exchange proposal to facilitate the expansion of Shillong Airport, enabling it to handle larger aircraft. The tender process for the expansion is currently underway.

Additionally, the Cabinet has approved ₹500 crore under the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) to electrify households in previously uncovered areas, significantly enhancing power access across the state.
