The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has issued a fresh ₹959.25 crore EPC tender for critical safety upgrades along the Kazhakkoottam–Kadampattukonam section of NH 66. Driven by recent safety audits and regional accident data, the new 18-month project introduces 12 viaducts, a cut-and-cover tunnel, and multiple pedestrian underpasses.
While the existing six-laning works—currently at 75% physical progress by RKC Infrastructure Ltd—have been extended to March 31, 2027, NHAI officials maintain that this new safety package will not disrupt ongoing traffic or construction. The strategic upgrades aim to eliminate dangerous conflict points and improve freight and passenger movement heading toward the Vizhinjam International Seaport, setting a safety blueprint for future NH 66 stretches.
