Pipeline to Prosperity: Jaipur's Water Security Takes Center Stage

The Public Health Engineering Department (PHED) has launched the second Bisalpur pipeline project to significantly enhance Jaipur’s water supply infrastructure and ensure uninterrupted distribution.

The new pipeline will run from the Surajpura filter plant near the Bisalpur Dam to an intermediate pumphouse at Renwal, situated about 10 km from PHED’s major storage facility in Balawala, Sanganer. This parallel system will allow for routine maintenance and rapid leak repairs without disrupting water flow to the city.

As part of the project, PHED will also upgrade the Surajpura filter plant, while the Water Resources Department (WRD) works to expand the plant’s intake capacity from the Bisalpur Dam. Currently, Jaipur receives around 710 million litres per day (MLD) out of the 820 MLD transferred from Bisalpur. Once the Ramjal Setu Link Project (RSLP) is completed, WRD plans to increase Jaipur’s allocation by an additional 400 MLD.

Looking ahead, PHED is designing the new pipeline to handle up to 1,500 MLD, in line with Jaipur’s projected water demand by 2039, ensuring long-term sustainability and resilience for the city’s water infrastructure.
