PVR INOX Bets on Tier-3 Growth with Budget Single-Screen Cinemas

To drive its next phase of growth, cinema giant PVR INOX is heading to India’s heartland with the launch of "smart screens"—a new chain of budget-friendly, single-screen theaters designed for tier-3 towns. With tickets priced 30–35% lower than metro rates, the initiative aims to bring the big-screen experience to underserved audiences. The rollout kicks off in Muzaffarnagar on August 11, with additional locations planned across Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, and Gujarat. According to Executive Director Sanjeev Kumar Bijli, with major metros reaching capacity and India averaging just seven cinema screens per million residents, smaller towns represent the next major frontier for consumer growth.
