Rehabilitation efforts for the historic Wellington reservoir in Cuddalore district have crossed the 60 percent completion milestone. Backed by a Rs 130-crore allocation, the comprehensive project involves upgrading the main canal and reinforcing the reservoir bund. Originally established in 1923 in Keelacheruvai village, the reservoir plays a vital agricultural role by supplying irrigation water to 9,737 hectares spanning 63 villages in the Tittakudi and Vriddhachalam taluks. To combat recurring issues from local soil conditions, the Water Resources Department is implementing innovative anti-seepage technology. Project completion is anticipated within the next three months.
