Securing Every Drop: Uttar Pradesh’s Irrigation Revolution

The Uttar Pradesh government is accelerating key irrigation projects and a state-wide canal revival programme to bolster agricultural productivity and drinking water access. Highlights include the landmark Ken-Betwa Link Canal Project, designed to irrigate 2.51 lakh hectares across Jhansi, Lalitpur, and surrounding districts—benefiting nearly 3 lakh farmers while providing clean drinking water to 21 lakh residents. Additionally, the near-complete Madhya Ganga Stage-2 project will expand irrigation across 1.46 lakh hectares in Amroha, Sambhal, and Moradabad. Complemented by the completed Rohin Barrage (5,386 hectares) and the Kanhar Irrigation Project (35,467 hectares), these combined initiatives aim to modernize aging canal infrastructure, strengthen crop yields, and secure long-term water resilience across rural UP.
