Telangana Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy has stressed that the government is giving top priority to the safety, protection, and rehabilitation of the Singur Dam, assuring that there will be no compromise on its upkeep. The dam is a crucial infrastructure asset as it supplies drinking water to Hyderabad and supports irrigation in surrounding regions.
During a high-level review meeting held at the Telangana Secretariat on Wednesday, officials briefed the minister on the safety status of several dams across the state. They informed him that the National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) had raised certain concerns regarding the Singur project, prompting the state government to take corrective measures.
Reddy directed officials to immediately undertake technical interventions, including underwater inspections and accelerated repair works, to address potential risks. He also announced plans to personally visit the dam and instructed contractors to complete the repairs within a single season to avoid disruption to agricultural activities.
In another development, the minister said a long-pending housing project for the poor in Huzurnagar will be inaugurated on March 14 by Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. The project, located on 110 acres at Ramaswamy Gutta, will provide 2,160 single-room houses with essential infrastructure facilities.
