The first phase of the Mappedu multi-modal logistics park in Tiruvallur district is on track for completion by April 2026, marking a significant step toward easing congestion at Chennai Port and enhancing cargo handling capacity.
With a total investment of Rs 1,424 crore, the project spans 184.27 acres and is designed to streamline logistics through integrated infrastructure, including warehouses, cold storage facilities, truck parking, and a container freight station. The initial phase, developed over 64 acres at a cost of Rs 375 crore, will feature five warehouses, an administrative block, a hotel, and supporting road infrastructure. Additional warehousing capacity will be added in subsequent phases.
Although construction began in 2023, delays in land acquisition shifted the completion timeline to 2026. The upcoming second phase will prioritise rail connectivity, including a 12 km railway siding linking the park directly to Chennai Port, enabling smoother cargo movement and reducing reliance on road transport.
Officials noted that the development is expected to deliver immediate operational benefits once the first phase is complete, including faster turnaround times and increased cargo throughput. The park will support a wide range of goods—from agricultural produce and electronics to automobiles and consumer products—while also offering on-site accommodation to facilitate business activities for exporters, importers, and traders.
