AP Genco’s Upper Sileru Pumped Storage Project has received preliminary environmental clearance from the Central Government, clearing the path for its ₹13,000 crore development.
The project, with a total installed capacity of 1,350 MW, will feature nine units of 150 MW each and is designed to enhance grid stability by storing surplus energy during off-peak hours and supplying it during peak demand. Having already secured technical clearance from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA), AP Genco is now completing the remaining forest clearance requirements to obtain full environmental approval.
Once operational, the facility is expected to significantly support renewable energy integration in Andhra Pradesh and strengthen the state’s energy infrastructure. The project reflects AP Genco’s commitment to sustainable energy solutions and reliable power supply, with construction slated to begin soon to meet growing peak demand across the state.
