Hindustan Oil Exploration Company (HOEC) has successfully drilled and completed Well KSG-71 in the Kharsang Block of the Assam Arakan Basin, marking a significant milestone as drilling resumes in the region after a 12-year pause.
The well is currently undergoing testing with choke sizes between 6 mm and 8 mm, and has recorded an initial oil production rate of approximately 250 barrels per day. HOEC stated that KSG-71 will be connected to production operations using the optimal choke size following the completion of testing. This activity is part of a larger plan to drill nine development wells in the block.
Drilling of the second well, KSG-72, is already underway. The Kharsang Block covers an area of approximately 10 square kilometers. It is operated by Geoenpro Petroleum, a wholly owned step-down subsidiary of HOEC, which holds a 10% Participating Interest (PI), while HOEC directly holds a 25% PI.
This project highlights renewed momentum in upstream exploration efforts across the region.
