WRD Floats Tender to Build New Storage in Kovalam Sub-basin

The Tamil Nadu Water Resources Department (WRD) has floated a tender for the construction of a new reservoir in the Kovalam sub-basin, located between East Coast Road (ECR) and Old Mahabalipuram Road (OMR) in Thiruporur taluk, Chengalpattu district.

The project, estimated at ₹164.61 crore with a 24-month completion timeline, is aimed at strengthening irrigation infrastructure and improving water management in the region. Identified as Phase 1 (Package 1), it covers the eastern and southern portions of the sub-basin and focuses on increasing water storage capacity to support agriculture and local communities.

The last date for bid submission is 25 November 2025.
