A New Era for Indian Mining: GAIL and HCL Join Forces

GAIL (India) Limited and Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on August 7, 2025, to jointly explore and develop critical mineral resources both domestically and internationally.

The MoU was signed by Sanjay Agarwal, Executive Director (Business Development and Exploration & Production), GAIL, and Binod Kumar Gupta, Executive Director (Mining) – Resource Planning, HCL, in the presence of senior leadership including R.K. Singhal, Director (Business Development), GAIL, and Sanjeev K. Singh, Chairman and Managing Director, HCL.

This strategic partnership is aimed at supporting India’s transition to clean energy and advancing technological self-reliance by reducing dependence on imported critical minerals. It also aligns with the country’s sustainable development goals, focusing on strengthening domestic capabilities in mining, mineral exploration, and processing.

Described as a forward-looking initiative, the collaboration seeks to unlock India’s untapped mineral potential and leverage global opportunities in the sector. Both companies reiterated their commitment to responsible resource management, technological innovation, and contributing to India’s long-term economic growth.
