Critical Minerals, Global Vision: The New CoE

The newly inaugurated Centre of Excellence (CoE) is envisioned as a national hub for research, innovation, and industry-scale solutions in the critical minerals sector.
The CoE will focus on key areas such as exploration, extraction, processing, recycling, and waste-to-wealth initiatives. It will collaborate with leading global institutions, including the University of Cambridge and St. Petersburg University, as well as prominent Indian institutes such as IIT Gandhinagar, IIT (BHU), and CPI (UK).

In addition, the Union Minister of Coal and Mines, G Kishan Reddy, inaugurated India’s first virtual reality-based mine simulator for coal mining. Developed jointly by IIT (ISM) Dhanbad and Coal India, the VR simulator provides a 360-degree immersive training environment aimed at improving safety preparedness and enhancing skill development among mine workers.

During the visit, the minister подчеркed that the mining sector is at a critical juncture where technology adoption, sustainability, and critical minerals will play a decisive role in shaping India’s future, underscoring the need for research-driven innovation to transform the country’s mining landscape.
