GAIL (India) Ltd has signed a long-term charter party agreement with Alpha Gas for the LNG carrier “Energy Fidelity,” strengthening its push to enhance India’s maritime infrastructure and energy supply chain.
The agreement was executed through Pantheon Maritime Services Pvt Ltd. The vessel has a cargo capacity of 174,000 cubic metres and is equipped with advanced features such as a two-stroke propulsion system, air lubrication technology, and shaft generators to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions, according to a regulatory filing.
The pact was signed in Athens by S. Bairagi and Anna Angelicoussis. The deal aligns with GAIL’s Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047, which focuses on strengthening India’s long-term energy security and maritime capabilities.
The agreement comes at a time of volatility in global LNG markets following the US-Israeli strikes on Iran and resulting restrictions in the Strait of Hormuz. In response, GAIL has increased spot LNG purchases and adjusted supply allocations, prioritising essential sectors while diversifying sourcing strategies to ensure uninterrupted operations despite rising geopolitical risks.
