The Ministry of Coal has initiated the 16th tranche of commercial coal mine auctions, introducing 25 coal blocks located across nine coal-bearing states, namely Arunachal Pradesh, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Odisha, Telangana, and West Bengal. This allocation comprises 21 fully explored and four partially explored mineral assets. Concurrently, the ministry finalized Coal Mine Development and Production Agreements (CMDPAs) for six blocks awarded in prior rounds—including Tara (Revised), Margo West, and Dip Side of PKoC—paving the way for immediate asset development. Upon operationalization, these projects are anticipated to draw approximately ₹1,743 crore in capital investments, underscoring India's commitment to broadening private sector participation in the commercial coal sector.
