India's Deepwater Future: OIL and TotalEnergies Join Forces

Oil India (OIL) has entered into a deepwater exploration technology partnership with TotalEnergies to strengthen collaboration across key offshore basins in India, including the Andaman, Mahanadi, and Krishna–Godavari (KG) basins.

Signed on 19 November 2025 in New Delhi, the agreement draws on TotalEnergies’ global expertise in deepwater and ultra-deepwater exploration. It encompasses a wide range of activities, including the appraisal of gas discoveries in the Andaman Basin, exploration efforts in ultra-deepwater blocks in the Mahanadi and KG basins, and technical support for ongoing and upcoming bidding rounds.

OIL views this partnership as a strategic step toward expanding its offshore portfolio and tapping new hydrocarbon opportunities in frontier regions. The agreement was formalised in the presence of senior government officials, marking a significant milestone in the energy ambitions of both companies.
