Numaligarh Refinery (NRL) has entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with OIL Green Energy (OGEL) to advance its transition toward cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.
OGEL, a wholly owned subsidiary of Oil India, will work alongside NRL to integrate renewable energy solutions into refinery operations. The agreement, signed on 20 April 2026 by senior officials from both organisations, underscores strong institutional support, with leadership from Oil India, NRL, and OGEL present at the occasion.
Under the MoU, the two companies will collaborate on developing renewable energy projects, sourcing green power, and ensuring a reliable long-term supply of sustainable energy for NRL’s operations. The partnership is expected to substantially increase the share of renewable energy in the refinery’s overall energy mix.
This initiative reflects the wider transition within India’s oil and gas sector toward decarbonisation. By lowering carbon intensity, enhancing operational efficiency, and contributing to national climate objectives, the agreement represents a significant milestone in NRL’s long-term sustainability and energy security strategy.
